§ 23592. Vehicle Impound for DUI.
(a)(1) The court can order your car impounded for up to 6 months (first offense) or up to 12 months (second offense or more) for conviction of the following:
(A) Driving with a suspended or revoked license;
(B) Failure to yield to a police officer (misdemeanor or felony) if that conviction is within 7 years of any of the following:(i) Reckless driving, if the vehicle was being driven over 100 miles per hour;
(ii) Misdemeanor DUI;
(iii) Felony DUI;
(iv) Gross vehicular manslaughter;
(v) Vehicular manslaughter.
(2) The cost for storing the vehicle is in the form of a lien on the vehicle.
(b) If the impounded vehicle is subject to a chattel mortgage, conditional sales contract, or lease contract, it can be released to the legal owner if he or she files an affidavit stating the above circumstances and pays the existing impound fees.
